Privacy Policy

How CherryQuery handles your data.

Privacy Terms Security

CherryQuery is a desktop app that searches the contents of files on your computer for a keyword. We prioritize the privacy and security of our users. This Privacy Policy explains what data CherryQuery handles and how it is protected. Please read this policy carefully to understand our practices.

1. Collection of Personal Information:

CherryQuery does not collect personal information from its users. We do not gather any data that can directly identify you, such as your name, address, email, or phone number.

2. Your Files and the Search Index:

To provide fast search, CherryQuery reads files in the folders you choose to index (by default, your Documents folder) and extracts their text on your device. The extracted text, file names, paths, and modification dates are stored in a local SQLite index (file-index.sqlite) in CherryQuery's application data folder. Your files and their contents are never uploaded or transmitted anywhere.

3. Settings:

Your preferences, such as indexed folders, file types, excluded folders, theme, language, and hotkey, are stored locally in a settings.json file in CherryQuery's application data folder and in the app's local storage. They never leave your device.

4. Deleting Your Data:

You can remove all indexed content at any time with the Clear Index option in the app. Uninstalling CherryQuery and deleting its application data folder removes the index and settings completely.

5. Third-party Sharing:

CherryQuery does not share any information with third parties. CherryQuery does not include analytics, telemetry, advertising, or crash reporting services.

6. Network Access:

CherryQuery does not send your files, search queries, or index to any server. If update checks are enabled, CherryQuery may contact GitHub to check for and download new versions of the app; no personal data or file contents are included in these requests.

7. License:

CherryQuery is proprietary software provided under an End User License Agreement (EULA). For full details regarding your rights and restrictions when using CherryQuery, please refer to the LICENSE file included with this software.

8. Security Measures:

Because all data stays on your device, the security of your index depends on the security of your computer and user account. The index may contain text from your documents, so we recommend protecting your device with a password and disk encryption. Password-protected documents are not read or indexed.

9. Children's Privacy

CherryQuery does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child, we will promptly delete it.

10. Changes to the Privacy Policy:

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in this document, and we encourage you to review it periodically. By continuing to use CherryQuery, you acknowledge and agree to the updated Privacy Policy.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding our Privacy Policy, please contact us via "Report a Vulnerability" or by email at jiang.ning.dl[at]gmail.com. Your privacy is important to us, and we are committed to addressing any issues promptly and transparently.
